Dr. Price will speak to the role of technology in education from a Superintendent’s perspective, including the vision for technology integration and the relationship between the Superintendent and the CTO in bringing the vision to reality. The infusion of technology into the instructional process is becoming ever more critically related to student success. Dr. Price will present his vision for existing and emerging technologies, the importance of the CTO in implementing the vision and how technology is supporting current initiatives in education.

The Future of IT Infrastructure (and How it Fundamentally Will Change the Role of the CTO): While there have been massive changes in IT infrastructure over the past few decades, those changes pale in comparison to the changes that will occur over the next several years. Ubiquitous virtualization and wireless, the "consumerization" of IT and cloud-based infrastructure will not only cause significant changes in the types of services IT departments offer, but will require new skills and expertise from school district technology leaders and decision-makers. The keynote will view the role of the CIO/CTO from past, present and future perspectives, focusing on the skills necessary for successful technology leadership.

E. Cloud Computing in Education: Cloud Computing provides an opportunity for educational institutions to transform the services, resources and tools provided to their users and communities. This session will provide an overview of what the cloud is, including virtualized server and storage environments, integrated cloud appliances, desktop virtualization, software for automation and provisioning, and cloud-based computing-on-demand, collaboration, teaching and learning tools. We will discuss the ways educational institutions can innovate around cloud technologies and services and review the emerging cloud technologies. Core topics around collaborative of cloud computing include - privacy and security, pedagogical impacts, learning content access, public versus private models, and the financial implications of cloud offerings along with sharing and discussion of San Diego County Office of Education San Diego COE initiatives cloud computing initiatives.
