CETPA, CoSN California (3C) Council Update
Andrea Bennett Executive Director
As many of you heard at the 2006 CETPA Conference, CETPA and the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) have developed a California chapter of CoSN called the CETPA, CoSN California Council, or the 3C Council. The April 2006 press release of this affiliation states, “The goal of this new effort is to build strong technology leadership at the school district level, and combine the strengths of California-based CETPA with the national resources of CoSN.”
CoSN was founded in 1992 and is a national non-profit organization. CoSN’s mission is to serve as the national organization for K-12 technology leaders who use technology strategically to improve learning. Membership includes a unique blend of technology leaders in leading-edge states and districts, as well as those technology leaders who wish to accelerate their districts’ or states’ systemic technology use.
In addition to publications and a professional development series, CoSN develops leadership initiatives that provide education and resources to technology leaders. Some of these leadership initiatives include: Accessible Technologies for All Students (www.accessibletech4all.org); Cyber Security for the Digital District (www.securedistrict.org ); Data-Driven Decision Making (www.3d2know.org ); Safeguarding the Wired Schoolhouse (www.safewiredschools.org ) and Taking Total Cost of Ownership to the Classroom (www.classroomtco.org ).
Some of the benefits that members of the 3C Council will enjoy are: up-to-the minute news on key national policy issues, such as the Erate and funding for technology under No Child Left Behind, as well as networking opportunities, professional development, representation in Washington and more.
The 3C Council is also in the process of developing a CTO Leadership Clinic in California. The clinic will consist of several sessions discussing the most important topics of Educational Technology. You will also be given the opportunity to network with your peers from around the state. Check the CETPA and CoSN websites soon for more information.
We have a great opportunity to learn more about CoSN and the 3C Council at the upcoming CoSN 2007 K-12 School Networking Conference which will take place March 28-30 in San Francisco. This will be the first CoSN annual conference ever held outside of the Washington, DC area. The theme of the conference will be Bridging Individualized Learning & High Stakes Accountability.
