Hands-On lab a Big Success Once Again!
Scott Sexsmith Director At-Large
For the fifth consecutive year, CETPA has been proud to offer a hands-on experience to our attendees as part of the annual conference. Working with our long-time hands-on lab partners Apple, Dell, and Microsoft, CETPA has successfully strived to present relevant material which participants in the lab can learn and apply back at the shop.
A total of 16 sessions, spread over the three days of the conference, provided participants with the opportunity to gain experience on a wide range of material from Windows servers to Podcasting. The Dell/Microsoft labs presented successful techniques for migrating to Windows Exchange 2003 and Windows Server 2003. Security, being an ever-present concern, was reflected in the presentation of two sessions on security for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.
Presented in the Apple labs were lessons on strategic methods for managing the Tiger operating system in an enterprise environment and integrating successfully into an Active Directory infrastructure. Opportunities to improve student performance with Apple’s iPod using Podcasting techniques were covered along with using collaboration tools such as instant messaging, blogging and QuickTime streaming.
The Board is always trying to make your hands-on experience at the CETPA labs better than the year before. If you have ideas or suggestions for next year’s labs in Monterey, please drop me a line at ssexsmith@capousd.org.
