Pre-Conference Sessions Set Tone For Conference
Scott Sexsmith Director At-Large and 2005 Pre-Conference Chair
A traditional part of the annual CETPA conference has been the holding of presentations prior to the actual “official” start of the conference. These pre-conference sessions or “pre-con,” as they are widely known, are intended to provide valuable information to attendees presented in a more in-depth manner than the normal conference break-out sessions. By allowing two hours for these sessions, presenters and attendees alike have ample time for digging deeper into relevant topics and challenges of the day.
This year’s pre-conference sessions covered a wide variety of significant topics including the ever-popular computer forensics material presented by Andy Prestage and Phil Scrivano from FCMAT. The Deputy Attorney General for the State of California, Robert Morgester, presented to a packed room the latest information on cyber laws. A session on the forthcoming new version of the Microsoft Windows operating system, Vista, provided attendees with an in-depth look at the new OS along with migration strategies for implementation.
The CETPA board decided to expand the number of pre-conference sessions by 50 percent for this year’s conference and include educational technology sessions along with the traditional sessions on information technology. This year’s edtech presentations included strategies for developing, implementing, and supporting on-line instruction and also a primer on educational assessment tools.
If you have suggestions or ideas about topics that you would like to see presented in a more in-depth session at next year’s conference please send me an e-mail at ssexsmith@capousd.org. I’d be very interested in hearing what you have to say.
On behalf of the board, I hope all who attended the pre-conference sessions found them informative and worthwhile.
